Ponte Milvio is one of Rome's most ancient bridges and lends its name to the open square which is the heart of the neigbourhood, grown up along the left bank of the river Tiber, in the north of the city centre. This area with its low rent housing, was initially mostly inhabited by working-class families. However after the 1970's building boom it attracted a wide variety of social and cultural types. Locals now span from the "new rich" children of the economic boom to the "new poor" recent immigrants from developing countries. It is in this environment that the story unfolds: five tales of daily strife with characters of different ages (from five to eighty) captured on one special day in their lives. |
