Une journée à la fin de l’été, Maria, une fillette de sept ans, a oublié l'anniversaire de sa mère jusqu'à ce qu'elle voit ses frères avec des bouquets de fleurs sauvages. Pour réparer son oubli, elle cherche par tous les moyens l’argent pour acheter des iris qu'elle a vus sur le marché près du port le matin. Sa quête la conduit à rencontrer toutes sortes de personnes sur sa route. Même si tout va mal, sa persévérance et son optimisme vont l'aider à atteindre son but… Un film plein de soleil, tourné sur la petite île sicilienne d’Ustica.
Maria, a seven-year-old girl who lives on island of Ustica, has forgotten her mother's birthday. She only remembers it when she sees her brothers presenting her with two bunches of wild flowers. To make amends, she immediatly starts off to buy some irises she had spotted in the market down at the port that morning. She sets out to raise some money which takes her all over the island and all this afternoon. She meets all kinds of people on the way who put her on different tracks, but in the end she gets more flowers than she bargained for…
