| Né à Karlovac, Croatie, en 1954. Diplômé en réalisation de l'Académie d'art dramatique de Zagreb en 1978. Il est scénariste et metteur en scène de cinéma, auteur de romans et pièces de théâtre, directeur de théâtre et a reçu de nombreux prix. Il a écrit et réalisé Little Train Robbery (1984), An Officer with a Rose (1987), The Bloodsuckers (1989), The Time of the Warriors (1991) et Garcia (1999). Officer with a Rose a été vendu dans plus de quarante pays. Two Players from the Bench (2005) a été le premier film croate de la sélection officielle du Tribeca Film Festival à New York.
