| Né à Alger d’un père algérien et d’une mère brésilienne. Après Haïti et le Sénégal, il arrive à Paris à l’âge de 18 ans pour y faire des études de lettres, philosophie et sciences sociales, mais poursuit parallèlement une activité théâtrale. Il entre ensuite à la London Film School, où il réalise Constant Flow. De retour à Paris depuis 2001, il travaille essentiellement comme acteur et réalisateur. Le Secret de Fatima (2003) est son premier court métrage professionnel sélectionné à Montpellier et primé dans de nombreux festivals, et diffusé sur Arte. Il réalise ensuite Racine(s), segment du long métrage Paris la Métisse (2006) et se joint au collectif Tribudom avec lequel il réalise plusieurs courts dont le dernier, Chantier(s). Il poursuit parallèlement une carrière de comédien au théâtre et au cinéma et participe à la création d'installations artistiques. | Born in 1976 in Algiers, he studied economics before attending the London International Film School to study directing and editing in 1998. Karim Bensalah was in turn theatre actor, editor and chief cameraman for short films. Since 1999 he has made five short films including 'Le Secret de Fatima' (2003) selected for competition at the Montpellier Festival. He then directed 'Racine(s)', a segment of a full-length feature 'Paris la Métisse' (2006) and joined the Tribudom collective with whom he made several shorts including 'Chantier(s)', the most recent one. He also works as a theatre and cinema actor and participates in the creation of art installations. |
