| Lamia Joreige est née à Beyrouth en 1972 et a émigré en France en 1983, où elle a étudié les arts graphiques avant de suivre une formation en peinture et cinéma de 1992 à 1995 à Rhode Island School of Design (Etats-Unis). Ses peintures et vidéos ont été présentées dans diverses expositions en France, au Liban et en Egypte. Elle a présenté son documentaire Ici et peut-être ailleurs au festival de cinéma méditerranéen de Montpellier en 2004. | Lamia Joreige was born in Beirut in 1972 and came to France in 1983 where she studied graphic arts before studying painting and cinema at the Rhode Island School of Design in the United States. Her paintings and videos have been exhibited in France, Lebanon and Egypt. She uses archival documents and fictitious elements to reflect on the relation between individual stories and collective History. She explores the possibilities of representation of the Lebanese wars and their aftermath, and Beirut, a city at the center of her imagery. Her work is essentially on Time, the recordings of its trace and its effects on us. |
