| Après des études scientifiques et littéraires à Montpellier, Manuel Pradal intégre la Fémis dans le département réalisation. Il y devient le temps des études l'assistant d'Agnès Varda. Son film de fin d'études Canti avec Agnès Jaoui est le deuxième film de l'histoire de la Fémis à être sélectionné au festival de Cannes. Après un séjour à la Villa Médicis, il écrit et réalise en 1998 Marie Baie des Anges. Le film est salué par la critique internationale et est distribué dans le monde entier. Fort de ce succès, il réalise Ginostra, en Sicile, gros budget en langue anglaise avec un cast international autour de Harvey Keitel, Andie MacDowell. Trois ans plus tard, en 2006, il récidive avec un polar sombre à New York, Un crime, avec Emmanuelle Béart et Harvey Keitel. En 2009, retour en France avec La Blonde aux seins nus. En 2011, il anime un atelier de cinéma avec des enfants de cinq ans, début de l'histoire de Tom le cancre. | After studying science and literature in Montpellier, Manuel Pradal entered the directing department of the Fémis. While studying, he worked as assistant to Agnès Varda. His graduation film 'Canti' with Agnès Jaoui was the second film in the history of the Fémis to be selected at the Cannes Film Festival. After a stay at the Villa Médicis, he wrote and directed 'Marie Baie des Anges' in 1998. It received international critical praise and was distributed world-wide. After this success, he made 'Ginostra' in Sicily, a high budget film in English with an international cast centred on Harvey Keitel and Andie MacDowell. Three years later, in 2006, he shot a dark crime film in New York: 'Un crime', with Emmanuelle Béart and Harvey Keitel. In 2009, he returned to France with 'La Blonde aux seins nus'. In 2011, he ran a cinema workshop for 5-year-olds, the beginning of the story of 'Tom le cancre'. |
