| Né à Istanbul en 1959. Après l'obtention d'un diplôme d'ingénieur de l'université de Bogaziçi, il étudie la mise en scène à l'université Mimar Sinan d'Istanbul. Après le court métrage Koza (1995), il réalise un premier long métrage en 1998, Kasaba. Nuages de mai (1999) est son deuxième long métrage. En 2003, Uzak est sélectionné au Festival de Cannes où il obtient le Grand Prix ainsi qu'un double prix d'interprétation pour les acteurs principaux. Ce film remporte l'Antigone d'Or du Festival de Montpellier la même année. Nuri Bilge Ceylan s'est vu attribuer le Prix de la mise en scène pour Les Trois singes en 2008 à Cannes. | Born in Istanbul in 1959. After graduating in engineering from Bogaziçi University, he studied directing at Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul. He made his first short film, Koza, in 1994, and his feature film, The Town in 1998. Clouds of May (1999) is his second feature film. Selected at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival, Uzak win the Grand prix and a double price for the main actors. The film won the Antigone d'Or at the Montpellier Festival in the same year. He won the prize for directing for Three Monkeys in Cannes in 2008. |
