| Née en Turquie en 1950, elle a poursuivi des études à l’American College d’Istanbul puis à l’université d’Istanbul où elle s’est spécialisée en littérature anglaise. Directrice-adjointe de la Cinémathèque turque à partir de 1975, elle organise ensuite le Balkan Film Festival. C’est en 1983 qu’elle est nommée directrice du prestigieux Festival international du film d’Istanbul, poste qu’elle occupera jusqu’en 2007. À ce titre elle a dirigé en 1996 l’importante rétrospective consacrée au cinéma turc au Centre Georges-Pompidou à Paris. Elle a participé à de nombreux jurys dans d’importants festivals internationaux tels que Venise, Montréal, Rotterdam, Montpellier, Valladolid et Taormina. | She was born in 1950 in Bandirma, Turkey. After graduating from the American College in Istanbul in 1971, she studied English Language and Literature at Istanbul University (1973-77). Her links with cinema began as a deputy manager at the Turkish Film Archive in 1975. After working on the organisation of various festivals in Turkey, she was appointed Director of the International Istanbul Film Festival in 1983 until 2007. In 1996, as the director of this festival, she was responsible for staging a great Turkish Film Retrospective at the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris. She has taken part as a jury member at important international festivals, such as Venice, Montreal, Rotterdam, Montpellier, Valladolid or Taormina. |
