Biography

Giuseppe Avati, dit Pupi, est né à Bologne en 1938. Il se passionne très tôt pour la musique. Après des cours en sciences politiques sans résultat puis dans une école vétérinaire, il entre en 1956 comme clarinettiste dans le groupe Rheno Jazz Gang avec lequel il joue en Europe jusqu'en 1964. Il abandonne son travail dans le commerce alimentaire pour réaliser son premier film, Balsamus, l'homme de Satan (1968). Il se consacre depuis au cinéma devenant auteur, réalisateur et producteur en association avec son frère Antonio. Il a notamment réalisé Histoire de garçons et de filles (1989), Bix (1990), Frères et sœur (1992), Déclaration d'amour (1994), Festival (1996), Le Témoin du marié (1997), La Rue des anges (2000), Un cœur ailleurs (2003), La Revanche de Noël (2004), Ma quando arrivano le ragazze ? (2004) et La Seconda notte di nozze (2005). Giuseppe Avati, aka Pupi, was born in Bologne in 1938. He became passionately interested in music from a very early age. After studying Political Sciences without any results, he went on to veterinary school for a while. However he left in 1956 in order to join a group called the Rheno Jazz Gang as clarinetist, with whom he played all over Europe until 1964. In 1968, he abandoned his job in the food supplying business in order to make his first film, Balsamus, l'homme de Satan (1968). Since then he has devoted himself to film making, becoming writer, director and producer in association with his brother Antonio. His most notable films are The story of girls and boys (1989), Bix (1990), Brothers and Sisters (1992), Declaration of Love (1994), Festival (1996), Il Testimone dello sposo (1997), A Midsummer Night's Dance (2000), The Heart Is Elsewhere (2003), Christmas Rematch (2004), When do the Girls show up ? (2004) et La Seconda notte di nozze (2005).
